Champion Queen

The name of our art work in Chinese is “Jian Shi.” That means something like “Sword Lion” in English. It is the face of a stone lion carved into a residential entranceway. The meaning of the Sword Lion is to keep away the evil spirits, appease the house deities, and pray for blessings. It is made of clay and coated with colored oyster-shell ash. It is in the shape of a grinning lion holding a sword. It is a symbol of the protection of the gods. It is located in the Anping District of Tainan on Anping Road. The entranceway belongs to a preserved traditional house in Anping. We like this art because it is a historical artifact of Anping and it is not only very special but also part of the heritage of our country.
