Taiwan Guditu Taobi This is “Taiwan Guditu Taobi”, a public art made of
clay by Professor Gao Cai-rong and many of his students at National Cheng
Kung University
in April 27th, 2004. This old map of Taiwan was originally drawn in the
year 1723 during the Qing Dynasty. Unlike other maps or public art, this map is painted with the colors green and
brown, making this piece of art beautiful and elegant yet not too fancy. The
purpose is to let the visitors of NCKU understand more about this university
and where it is on the old map. It is now set in a wall in the NCKU library
with a miniature-sized NCKU on it. From this public art, we can see how hard
our ancestors worked when they first came to this island. It represents the
history of Taiwan and the
way our ancestors saw Taiwan.
